UK – 7 Seven illegal workers arrested in west London

On Thursday 8 December 2011 at Tuk Tuk Thai noodle bar at Queensway, Bays water , London " officers have arrested 7 staff members found working illegally at the bar.  

Arrested 5 Chinese men and 2 Malaysian women aged between 21 and 48, of which 5 had entered the country illegally and 2 had overstayed their visas.

Six of the 7 are currently in immigration detention while they takes steps to remove them from the country at the earliest possible opportunity. A 34-year-old Chinese male must regularly report to appropriate authorities.

The owner of the restaurant was given a penalty notice warning he could face a fine of up to £10,000 for each illegal worker arrested, unless he can prove that the correct right-to-work checks were carried out.

Marie Babaoglu, head, north central London local immigration team, UK Border Agency said:

'It is the legal responsibility of all businesses to check their employees have the right to work in the UK.

'Where we find people who are in the UK illegally, we will seek to remove them. But we also want to send out a strong message to employers: more raids like this are planned.'
